Tiger Tennis Day was on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Keowee Key Fitness and Racquet Center in Salem, SC. The Men’s Clemson Varsity Tennis team started the day with their formal practice session for view by our members. It was exciting to watch this 2-hour practice of 10 Clemson players and two coaches right here on our courts. After the practice session, two of the Tigers’ best doubles teams played a 10-point breaker as an exhibition in front the crowd.
A total of 20 Keowee Key Tennis Club members then participated in a Round Robin friendly competition that included the Men’s Clemson team, their 2 coaches and our Keowee Key Pros. Two teams were formed and designated as either the Paws or the Claws! After 3 rounds, the Paws won the event. Each member of the winning team received Official Clemson Tiger Paw branded tennis balls donated by the Clemson team. Our event sponsor, Ingles in Seneca, provided drinks for this event.

The Keowee Key Orange & White Tennis Classic was held June 24th, 2017, at Keowee Key Fitness and Racquet Center in Salem, SC. Proudly wearing the colors of our beloved neighbor and National Football Champions, Clemson University, Orange and White were worn by 32 teams that competed against each other on our 8 Hartru courts.
The competition began at 8:30 AM in the morning and played each hour until the playoff was held to determine the winning team. For the second year in a row, the Orange team defeated the White team. The competition ended with a very exciting mixed doubles match featuring our two tennis professionals, Brad Huff and Ward Snyder. Brad partnered with our Senior U.S. Olympic Silver Medalist, Jane Gabe, for the White team and Ward played with Katy Keranen for Orange. The Orange prevailed.
The theme this year was “Motown” and teams played to fun music from the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, and the Jackson 5. In the inclusive spirit of Keowee Key, all levels from beginners to advanced were welcome, and never forgot what is most important, “having fun.” The 64 participants took a happy memory home with them

The Keowee Key Men’s 18-Hole Member Guest Tournament was held June 15 – 17, 2017. Sixty members of the KKMGA and their guests came together from all over the United States for three days of competition and camaraderie in the 33rd edition of this premier golf and social event at Keowee Key. The tournament itself pits 60 two-man teams in ten flights in head to head competition over five Nine-hole matches, culminating in a three hole shoot out among the 10 flight winners on Saturday afternoon. This year’s winner was the team of Clif and Gene Smith who prevailed in a thrilling alternate shot competition that was witnessed by over 100 spectators lining the fairways on each of the three playoff holes.
While golf is certainly the center piece of this three-day event, it also featured a fabulous opening cocktail party at the Club in grand style. Daily events for the spouses and companions of the players provided a look at local attractions as well as competition for those who wanted to get into the game. This year a cooking demonstration at The Healthy Olive on Thursday, a brunch, fashion show and putting contest/ fun golf tournament on Friday were all on the agenda for the ladies. Finally, the Awards Dinner Dance at the Club, closed out the event with an amazing meal and many stories of what might have been and wait until next year! This event is always special and this year was no exception. A time to meet new friends, renew old acquaintances, and celebrate the great place we live in with our guests from all over the country, is really what Keowee Key living is all about.
